Now onto L'Oreal's Magic Smooth Souffle Foundation...

The other day I was flipping through a magazine and came across a sample tear card of L'Oreal's Magic Smooth Souffle Foundation. The sample card featured three shades for light, medium and deep skin tones. There was also a sample of primer on the card (the Magic Perfecting Base).

Considering I loved the primer, I was hoping this foundation would be equally as nice. I was intrigued by the commercials for this foundation, so I was excited to try them out.

First of all, the sample size you receive is really little. I was only able to swatch this on my hand and had nothing left for my face (the amount you see on my hand is all that was included in the sample... it probably looks like more in the pics but if you see it in person you'll understand how tiny of an amount you get). Since it never made it onto my face I'll have to base my review on what I swatched and how it felt and looked on my hand.

L'Oreal Magic Smooth Souffle Foundation: Classic Ivory 512

L'Oreal Magic Smooth Souffle Foundation: Nude Beige 516

L'Oreal Magic Smooth Souffle Foundation: Sun Biege 530

I hated it. The texture is soft, but blending it out was a little weird. It can leave little "balls" of foundation that you have to go back and make sure you blend them into your skin. It's not that you can't work with the foundation, because you can, but I personally wasn't fond of the texture and application (then again, I am a liquid foundation lover).

The shades blended out different than they first appear. Both the "light" (Classic Ivory) and "medium" (Nude Beige) shades blended out lighter and looked too pink, which would never work with my undertones (although the Nude Beige shade seemed to also have neutral undertones). The "medium" shade (Nude Beige) was the shade I figured would work for me, but based on the swatch it would for sure make my face look pale. The "deep" shade (Sun Beige) would be too dark and too orange on my face. Maybe if I had the chance to try out a better shade match (Natural Beige may be a better fit) I'd be able to have a better opinion on what I think.

So far I'm not jumping at the chance to go out and buy this foundation... especially when I saw the price. I haven't actually checked prices in stores, but on L'Oreal's website it says the MSRP price is $16! Wow. Definitely over priced for this foundation.

The coverage is light to medium. Layering is not an option with this; it just doesn't play well with layers. Stick to one layer and use a good concealer before applying this on any trouble areas (where you might normally layer your foundation for additional coverage). I also find that this foundation looks a little dry/powdery. It doesn't look fresh, or even a nice matte finish.

Maybe, just maybe, the sample cards are awful. The actual foundation may be wonderful in the jar, but what I was able to try out did not persuade me to make a purchase.

What do you think of this foundation? Have you tried it? Did you have a better experience with this?
