I don't even want to go into how long I have been using Lush products but I have written Winter Haul posts for as long as I have had my blog which is over 4 years. Over the years the Winter collection has changed quite a lot and I have to say I'm not overly impressed with some of the changes to this years line up. One massive improvement was the fact that Lush made Rose Jam Shower Gel a permanent product so I no longer need to stock up on this during the festive season.
The biggest disappointment for me was the removal of Snowcake Soap from the line up. Snowcake soap is one of the products I have been buying for years and my mother loves it just as much as I do! I literally remember buying chunks of this soap in their Regent Street store when I was in my mid-teens, almost 10 years ago. I've even ordered the Shower gel from the Lush Kitchen before. I have to admit last year's reinvention of Snowcake did not work in my eyes but no Snowcake at all is even worse! Snowcake is an almond scent, sort of like marzipan or Disaranno. I love almond scents and I find it such a comforting scent, especially for Winter; it is a great alternative to the traditional spicy scents you see at this time of year. To give credit to Lush they have launched an alternative which is just as good but I will talk about that a little bit later on. Instead I am going to start with the product I purchased instead of Rose Jam.
This year I didn't need to buy Rose Jam Shower Gel so I looked for an alternative to get me through Winter. Whilst I was doing my first stop in Lush, I was helped by a Sales Assistant and I expressed my dismay about Snowcake not making it's return this year. She hadn't smelt it before but I explained that it was an almond scent and she showed me some of the products which contain Almond oil and one of these products was Cinders Shower Gel. The sales assistant described it as a Disaranno sort of scent and she was spot on with this description. It does have that strong almond scent but it is heavily spiced. This shower gel contains: Pumpkin Seed Oil, Cinnamon Leaf Oil, Ginger Powder and Nutmeg Powder. If you look at the bottom of the shower gel there are little black pieces which must be some of the powders settling at the bottom. The texture of the shower gel looks thick, as it is opaque, so I did think this could be like a shower cream. This is definitely a gel as it is quite thin but I would say it feels more nourishing than your average gel. For those of you who remember Cinders Bath Bomb from a couple of years ago (one of my favourites) I don't think this shower gel smells like it but I am basing that off of my memory of the scent. Please do not be put off by the fact that this shower gel looks like Tomato Soap, this is a beautifully warming scent which is perfect for Winter.
I don't know whether the Lush staff have been told to promote the Jelly Masks but whenever I am in store they always make me look at them. I actually do not like the texture of the Lush Jelly products. I stupidly bought two of the Jelly Bath Bombs last year thinking I would try them but I still haven't used them. Just the idea of a jelly layer on top of my bath water makes me feel a little bit sick. The idea of the jelly face mask does not appeal to me in slightest but I ended up taking a tub of the Rudolph Jelly Mask home with me. I'm still not sure if I will actually use it but the Sales Assistant tested it on the back of my hand in store and when I washed it off, my hand felt incredible. I wanted it to leave my face feeling as soft as my hand did. Not only did my skin feel completely different but the mask has a soft chocolate scent and I am all for any products that smell like chocolate. I am yet to use this but I'm sure I will let you know my thoughts on this product on some form of social media.
The first product I picked up was Perle De Sel, I had just walked into the Bristol store and this was one of the first bath bombs to catch my eye. It is a beautiful white bath bomb with gold, almost pearl like, balls on top. When I smelt this bath bomb all I could think was finally Lush have launched a bath bomb which smells like Snowcake! I mean they did create the Snow Angel Bath Melt a couple of years ago but the excessive amount of chunky glitter stopped me from liking it. Perle De Sel does contain glitter but it is more of a shimmer. I can get past a bit of shimmer but I really hate the chunky glitter Lush use in some of their bath bombs as you literally can not get it off your skin. The main selling point of this bath bomb is that it smells like Snowcake. I have actually bought 3 of these bath bombs so far and I am sure I will stock up on more before they stop selling it. I actually went into two Lush stores and in both of them the staff explained that the pearls/shimmer on top is a salt from Africa where the wind passes over the water and creates this shimmer. Apparently it is meant to leave your skin feeling super soft and moisturised. I haven't used this yet but it is definitely going to be the first one I try.
There is actually a Bubble bar/Bubbleroom which I am dying to use with Perle De Sel which is Puddy Holly. When I first went into the Bristol store I completely ignored this as I thought it would be the same scent as Holly Golightly Bubble Bar from a couple of years ago, which I wasn't a massive fan of. I walked straight past it and it wasn't until the Sales Assistants in the Bristol store helped me and said I would love it because it has the same scent as Snowcake. She was correct, I completely loved the scent. It is the same almond scent of Snowcake. I also love that this is a bubbleroon instead of a bubble bar, I much prefer the bubbleroon formula. The bubbleroons are much more creamy and softer than the bubble bars so your skin feels softer and I find they create more bubbles. One word of warning, do not stock up on too many of these, you are better buying them as you need them. Bubbleroons have a lot of oils which do diffuse out over time and they make the packaging oily, ruining any products which are kept near it. I was thrilled to have been shown this bubbleroon, as I would not have picked it out myself and I can see myself buying lots of these over the festive season.
There was a reason I had to go into a different Lush shop the day after I did my bulk buy in town and that was because of Cheery Christmas. In store I had assumed it would be the Snow Fairy scent as it is pink and every Snow Fairy product is pink. Just to clarify, I hate the smell of Snow Fairy. However when I got home I read a quick review of this on someone's Instagram and they said it smelt like Angels Delight Soap which I loved back in the day. This made me want to go into store to see if they were right and they most certainly were. This takes me back and reminds me of old school Lush. This is a bath bomb and I am eager to use so that I can see what it does to my bath.
There were two classic bath bombs I could not miss out on when I saw them which were Golden Wonder and Lord of Misrule. I'll talk about Lord of Misrule first as it is the only Halloween item I have purchased this year. Lord of Misrule is hands down one of my all time favourite Lush bath bombs. There is nothing better than using this bath bomb on a cold evening to warm yourself through. Not only does it have a soft spicy, floral scent but it turns your bath water the most stunning wine shade which is perfect for Autumn. Every year I make sure I stock up on Lord of Misrule and I obviously stocked up a little bit too much last year as I still have some left.
Lord of Misrule was the only Halloween product to take my fancy which is unusual considering last year I actually preferred the Halloween collection to Christmas. I do like Monsters' Ball Bath Bomb and I will potentially buy one in a later haul but I am trying to be good this year as I still haven't used some of the bath bombs I bought last year.
Do I really need to say much about Golden Wonder? Golden Wonder has been around for years and has to be the oldest in this years line up and with good reason. This smells like a warm Mojito, just with less Mint. It is quite a fresh citrusy smell but has a hint of warmth. It turns the bath a bright blue with a golden shimmer that ripples within the water. It has to be one of the most beautiful bath bombs Lush create and at this point it is an icon of the Christmas range, I don't know what I would do if they stopped stocking this bath bomb.
Winter wouldn't be the same without a good old Lush haul. Autumn/Winter is the time that I start to have baths more regularly, just so I can thoroughly warm myself through. I have to say the creation of Perle De Sel and Puddy Holly has filled my Snowcake void and I am glad I now have it as a bath scent however the rest of the new launches did not appeal to me as much. I'm sure I will make a return trip to Lush to pick up some more Perle De Sel , Puddy Holly and Lord of Misrule and whilst I'm there I will get a Monsters' Ball and potentially a tub of Buck's Fizz Body Conditioner. Buck's Fizz Body Conditioner was a stand out product in last year's collection but it is quite expensive so I didn't get one this time but I definitely want to pick up a tub before the end of the year. Have you been into Lush yet and if so what did you pick up? Let me know in the comments or on twitter: @SophaaRambles
