Ann Coulter

Conservative activist Ann Coulter said Tuesday that she thinks former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney would lose to President Obama in the 2012 November general election.
“If you don’t run Chris Christie, Romney will be the nominee and we’ll lose,” Coulter said, but added “I now think the economy is such a disaster and Obama has such a glass jaw that we might even win with Romney. And Romney isn’t a disaster . . . I like him,” Ms. Coulter said during an appearance on CNN.
Ms. Coulter, who has sparked a debate within the Republican Party, said she continues to support New Jersey Republican governor Chris Christie, pressuring him to enter the 2012 race. Mr. Christie has repeatedly said he will remain in New Jersey and will not seek the 2012 Republican nomination.
“The problem with Romney that a lot of people have, people like me, conservatives, is Romneycare,” she said. “I still think he’ll probably be the nominee unless Christie jumps in. Christie’s pretty stunning,” Ms. Coulter said.
Ms. Coulter’s comment come as recent polls show Mr. Romney in a tight race with President Obama. A Washington Post poll released Monday shows Mr. Romney trailing Mr. Obama by just 3 percentage points. The former Massachusetts governor has led a number of recent polls, making him the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination.
A number of Republicans have criticized Mr. Romney’s support for statewide health care. The former Massachusetts governor signed into law Massachusetts’ health care law, which Mr. Obama has said was used as a model for his national health care law.
