After making my ocean boards using these interlocking floor mats, I decided to see how they would look for land boards. I smeared them with almond-colored caulk and then hit them with various colors and textures of caulk.
I did one board first to test the concept. It came out well and seemed durable.
I did a second board to test how much the join would show. Surprisingly, it hardly shows at all. With better consistency on my flocking, I don't think they would show at all. I added a couple woods and a Russian 15mm infantry battalion for scale.

But from a distance, they start to disappear.
Next, I plan on doing a board with some foam hills on them. I'll use the caulk to affix the hills and then caulk over the top of them, then flock the whole thing. This is looking really promising, thus far.
